Mechan is a Sheffield-based manufacturing company that is the UK’s leading producer and installer of lifting and handling equipment for the rail industry. In 2017 they joined forces with French Group CIM- one of the rail industry’s most ambitious full-service providers. With the help of approved distributors from across the world, they have established an international reputation for high-quality service, and thanks to their team of highly skilled engineers and designers, Mechan handling systems are specified in some of the most sophisticated rail and tram depots in the world.
Mechan originally came to us for a set of three product videos. After Feature Media completed the videos Mechan were impressed with the outcome and so enquired about the creation of a promotional video. They wanted to wanted the promotional video to demonstrate their capabilities and reaffirm their values around quality and technical expertise, which set them apart and help maintain their status as market leaders.
Feature Media worked with Directors at Mechan to understand the business points of difference, their audience, and sales process. This then allowed Feature Media to start the scriptwriting process for the video. Mechan didn’t want an interview led film. Instead, they preffered a voice over.
Once the scripts were sent across and Mechan were happy with them we could start filming. The scripts allowed us to plan our shots prior to going on-site and filming, the purpose of the script is to help guide the visuals. We shot at mechan’s site, across their offices and factory, showing each part of their process.
We wanted to include a lot of stylistic elements that would help the video stand out from other promotional videos in the manufacturing sector. We filmed a lot of B-roll with the aid of a gimbal, this creates tracked shots whilst also keep the image steady. We filmed some footage in a higher frame rate so that it could later be edited into slow-motion. The combination of these filming techniques as well as the inclusion of some cool transitions and tracked graphics really gave the overall video a modern feel and helped encompasses Mehan’s brand. The onscreen tracked graphics were also used because we knew Mechan wanted to use the video at trade shows and exhibitions, where the sound might need to be low or even turned completely off.
Once completed, the video was shared with Mechan who were very pleased with how the video represented their brand. The three product videos and the promotional video Feature Media created for Mechan now are displayed on their website. They also display the promotional video at several trade shows they attend across the world every year.
Mechan have teamed their new video up with a targeted email marketing campaign which they saw great results from and generated leads with new prospects and returning customers.
Recently we reworked the video to replace Mechan’s old logo with the new one. This involved rotoscoping footage, removing the old logos and inserting and blending in the new logo.
